Design Camp is a one week camp for middle school students who are interested in design. Design Camp is a one week camp for middle school students who are interested in Career Exploration and will eventually go to Northgate High school. Design Camp students will explore careers and college study in all careers offered as pathways in our district and raises awareness of the impact of design in all aspects of our everyday lives. The skills in design thinking and creative experience gained at Design Camp can empower students on their path toward becoming innovative problem solvers and prepare them to tackle the challenges of the future. The students will also create Infographics based on their career exploration. At Design Camp, campers learn how design knowledge and skills can help them understand the world around them and do what it takes to make it better. Design Camp projects challenge students to explore careers and college study opportunities, creativity and critical-thinking skills while pushing them to try a range of techniques and media. The exploration of the design process teaches students to question, make choices, generate alternatives, work collaboratively and create their own solutions to problems. Learning about design as a way of thinking helps students apply skills in math, science, technology, reading, writing, and communication. Students who attend Design Camp make connections between what they know and can do and ultimately broaden their awareness, understanding and navigation of the world around them.
